Andhra Pradesh: DRM forms 3-member panel to probe gangrape

AMARAVATI: Stumped by the gangrape incident in Repalle railway station, divisional railway manager (DRM) R Mohan Raja constituted a three-men committee to probe into the issue.

Strongly condemning the incident, Mohan Raja, however, said they would not spare anyone if found negligent in handling their duties in the station. He explained that their initial inquiries revealed that the staff present in the station were unaware of the incident. "The last train No. 07888 arrived Repalle railway station at 23:40 hrs on April, 30. The on-duty station master along with points man, loco pilot and train manager secured the train with chains and skids on both ends of platform No.1 and completed the work around 00:00 am.

Later, they went to the station master room which is situated almost near the dead-end of the platform, wherein train manager and loco pilot left after signing-off from duty," said Mohan Raja. He said that the staff informed that no one was seen at the end-of the platform.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
