AMARAVATI: It's all set for the formation of new districts in Andhra Pradesh. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will formally inaugurate 26 districts through a video-conference on Monday.
The administration in the 13-district Andhra Pradesh will be moving to 26 districts. The new district collectorates and SP offices have been readied with required infrastructure on a war footing.
The state government has redesigned the police district units. The concept of urban police districts has been abandoned with the formation of new districts. The state will have 24 district units for police administration in addition to two police commissionerates - Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
All the 24 district units will be headed by SP rank officers. Previously, urban districts were created for Guntur, Rajahmundry and Tirupati with a view to upgrading them as commissionerates in the future. The reorganisation of the districts has reduced the areas of new districts prompting the police administration to go for a rejig.
