Nearly 200 canalside flats will be coming to Ancoats after planners approved another apartment block in the area.
Jersey Wharf will be built on Jersey Street, by the Rochdale Canal. Its 190 apartments will be squeezed into two eight-storey blocks, which will also have ground-floor commercial space.
Of these 190, 50 apartments will be one-beds, 128 will be two-bedroom, and 12 will be three-bedroom. The Wharf is the latest development to come to Ancoats, which is frequently voted on the coolest places to live on earth.

Currently, the land is being used for warehousing or is waste ground. Once the building is finished, it will be directly opposite Eliza Yard, which will house 118 apartments.
“The development offers an exciting opportunity to see the Poland Street Zone [of Ancoats] begin its transformation into a distinctive new neighbourhood within Manchester,” the developers say. “In March 2021 MCC endorsed a public realm masterplan. The master plan aims to create a fully coordinated and cohesive public realm in the area. This will help to transform the area into a destination for all to enjoy.”
Both the Jersey Wharf and Eliza Yard developments are being spear-headed by Manchester Life, which the council part-owns with Manchester City owners, Abu Dhabi United Group. Planning permission was granted for Eliza Yard in June 2021.
The pair also sit just a few streets away from the new Ancoats Mobility Hub, which will include improvements to Ancoats Green. Plans are also in place to install parcel lockers to curb package theft, the MEN understands.
The mobility hub will also house parking for Jersey Wharf, planning documents show. 190 cycle spaces — one per flat — will be provided on-site.
