The Jane Eyre, the buzzy bar and eatery in Ancoats, is all set to take over The Parlour in Chorlton. Known for its cocktails and revered Sunday roasts, the plan is to open on December 1.
As well as bringing its cocktails and roasts, it will also boast a small plates menu, while breakfast and brunch will be served on the weekends. The focus will be on seasonal ingredients, while the Ancoats head chef Jack Mullen, who is also a partner in the business, will take over as head chef in Chorlton.
Based on Cutting Room Square, The Jane Eyre opened in 2018, and is named in honour of owners Joe and Jonny’s late mother, Jane. After making a name for its fine cocktails, it then opened up a bar at Escape To Freight Island, which it will continue to run alongside its two other bars.

“We’ve always fancied Chorlton as an area we’d like to open, so when we heard something was coming available, we were super keen to get in,” co-owner Joe Eyre told the M.E.N. “It’s kind of similar to Ancoats in that it has a neighbourhood village feel. We thought we’d fit in nicely, and it’s a good next step.
“We’re changing the location of the bar, and the decor will change, so we’ll be putting our own stamp on the place.”
Added Jonny Eyre: “We want to make the bar area a focus, so that people can feel they can wander in and sit at the bar and have a drink. We’ll have a bigger menu too. The kitchen in Chorlton is bigger than what we have in Ancoats. And there’s more families in Chorlton, so we’ll be catering more for kids too.”
Ancoats general manager Frank Burke, also a co-owner, will also be heading over to manage the new spot. “We’ll have a wider range of drinks,” Frank said. “We’ll expand the offering a little bit, and maybe even a fine wines section, what with [off licence] Carrington’s around the corner, we think people will be interested in that.”
The bar, on Beech Road, operated as The Parlour for many years, owned by former Coronation Street actor Rupert Hill and Jonny Booth, who also owned the likes of The Castle Hotel on Oldham Street and Northern Quarter live venue Gullivers.
“When we lived around here, we knew it as The Parlour, and we’d go a lot, and a lot of our friends loved it too,” Joe went on. “A lot of people have said that they miss it.”
The bar was in 2017, and it eventually closed in 2018. After a long spell empty, it reopened as Suburban Green, which has other bars in Wilmslow and Macclesfield, in 2021. However, that too closed earlier this month, with owners saying that it struggled to get off the ground in the wake of the pandemic lockdowns.
