Two women in a Chinese psychiatric hospital, both carrying schizophrenia diagnoses going back more than fifteen years, raised the same complaint on the same December day. Their legs would not settle. The discomfort came on when they were still, eased when they walked, and made falling asleep impossible.
Neither had a leg problem. What they had in common was olanzapine, one of the most widely prescribed antipsychotics in the world. Hong-Liang Li of Jurong Mental Hospital in Jiangsu Province described both patients in two case reports in the World Journal of Psychiatry.
