A Few Thoughts On The 2022 Nevada Football Schedule
The 2022 Nevada Wolf Pack football schedule was released recently and the Wolf Pack schedule features some winnable games and some tough games.
2022 will be the first season under new Nevada head coach Ken Wilson as former Wolf Pack head coach Jay Norvell is now the new head coach at Colorado State. The 2022 Nevada schedule does have Novell’s Colorado State Rams (or Colorado State Wolf Pack) traveling to Reno to face Nevada on October 8th.
Here is the entire 2022 Nevada Wolf Pack Football Schedule
Aug 27th: at New Mexico State
September 3rd: vs. Texas State
September 10th: vs. Incarnate Word
September 17th: @ Iowa
September 24th @ Air Force
October 8th: vs. Colorado State
October 15th: @ Hawaii
October 22nd: vs San Diego State
October 29th: @ San Jose State
November 5th: BYE
November 12th: vs. Boise State
November 19th: vs Fresno State
November 26th: @ UNLV
I got to say that this schedule for Nevada under first-year head coach Ken Wilson is manageable early on with a tough second half of the schedule. For a Nevada football team that is in rebuild mode, the early part of the schedule could be where the Wolf Pack get some wins early such as New Mexico State and Texas State. The Incarnate Word contest is tricky because the Cardinals won ten games last year but have to break in a new quarterback.
There is a fair chance that the Wolf Pack could head into the Iowa contest 3-0. The Iowa and Air Force contests are going to be tough for Nevada to win on the road with a young, rebuilding team. However, that October 8th contest against Colorado State could be a game I can see Nevada winning.
That contest between the Wolf Pack and the Rams will be two rebuilding teams trying to establish a foundation of what their programs will be in the future. So it will probably be a close contest that I can envision Nevada winning because it’ll be an emotional contest that the Wolf Pack will want to win to stick it to their former head coach and current Rams head coach Jay Norvell.
After the Hawaii road trip is where the schedule gets tougher for Nevada. San Diego State, Boise State and Fresno State will face the Wolf Pack and those teams are very talented and could provide growing pains for the Wolf Pack. A trip to San Jose State at the end of October will be no walk in the park for Nevada.
The sole benefit of this portion of the schedule is that the Aztecs, Broncos and Bulldogs all have to come to Reno to play Nevada so they could give the Wolf Pack a chance to score an upset and play a factor in the 2022 Mountain West Championship chase.
The Wolf Pack do have to travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV in the regular season finale for the Fremont Cannon. The Wolf Pack have handled the Rebels in the last two contests but UNLV should be returning some talented playmakers this season. The Rebels are slowly but surely improving under head coach Marcus Arroyo so I expect this contest to be a close contest for Nevada to close out the inaugural season for Ken Wilson and the Wolf Pack.
So in conclusion, an early look into Nevada’s 2022 schedule shows a team that could contend for a bowl spot if things break in their favor. It depends on if Nevada can score some wins early in the schedule and if they can steal a win or two in that brutal second half of the schedule against some of the best in the Mountain West.
