Two rounded pouches sit on either side of the bladder base, close to where the ureters enter. In contrast, the three shapes together read unmistakably as a head with two ears. The literature calls it the Mickey Mouse bladder.
An 11-year-old boy turned up at a urology clinic with lower urinary tract symptoms, and imaging showed exactly that: bilateral Hutch diverticula, one on each side, without any backward flow of urine toward the kidneys. The case, published this year in Urology Case Reports, is unusual less for the picture than for what happened next. He never had an operation, and he got better anyway.
