Amy Dowden shares joy as she returns to work with fellow Strictly star after breast cancer surgery

Welsh Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has returned to work, reuniting with a fellow Strictly star for filming, just weeks after her breast cancer surgery. Posting to her Instagram Amy said being back filming is "exactly" what she needed.

Amy posted a selfie of herself and Dragons' Den star Sara Davies, who competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, and revealed she was back filming. Amy said: "With my super lovely @saradaviescc working on something super fun! EXACTLY what I needed! #havemissedher #friends #dragonandawelshdragon #recoveringwiththebest".

Sara also posted on her Instagram and said Amy stayed the night at her house and she helped to inject Amy with her treatment, with "no crying". In a recent health update, Amy said the surgery she "went well" and thanked the hospital staff for their support. Thanking hospital staff, Amy added: "Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been so utterly amazing and looking after me. Very sore but focusing on the positives they said the surgery went well! Thanks for all the support and messages."

The star also shared on her Instagram stories that she had undergone a mastectomy and later breast reconstruction. The British Champion, who also has Crohn's disease, broke the news of her breast cancer in May 2023, telling her 328,000 followers: "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dancefloor before you know it. Welsh love Amy."

When announcing her diagnosis, Amy also shared a candid interview she had done with Hello! Magazine, where she told the publication: "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age. My mum has had breast cancer but she had it at a later age, in her 50s."
