Amy Adams-vehicle Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams, is set to hit theaters on December 6, 2024, right in the midst of awards season. Originally slated for a Hulu release, the film will now have a theatrical debut. The project is a collaboration between Searchlight Pictures and Annapurna, with Marielle Heller at the helm. Heller, known for her work on films like The Diary of a Teenage Girl and Can You Ever Forgive Me?, is directing the adaptation of Rachel Yoder's satirical novel from 2001.
Nightbitch follows the story of a woman navigating the challenges of raising a toddler in suburbia while her husband is frequently away on business trips. As she grapples with the demands of domestic life, she begins to experience a surreal transformation, possibly turning into a protective canine.
The film is being produced by Heller, Anne Carey, Sue Naegle, Christina Oh, and Stacy O'Neil, who is Adams' partner at Bond Group. Annapurna Pictures, led by Megan Ellison, was initially involved in developing the project. Heller expressed her admiration for Yoder's book, stating that it resonated with her in a profound way and that envisioning Adams in the lead role kept her motivated during the challenges of the pandemic.
Prior to Nightbitch, Heller directed the critically acclaimed A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood in 2019, which garnered an Oscar nomination for Tom Hanks. The upcoming release of Nightbitch is highly anticipated by fans of Heller's work and those eager to see Amy Adams in a unique and intriguing role.
