'Amplified music' banned from Falkirk town centre following complaints

Buskers will no longer be able to randomly turn up with their instruments or microphones in Falkirk town centre following complaints from residents and businesses about noise.

Instead, they'll need to book what the local authority has described as "specific pitches" across the area.

Signs reading "Public notice No amplified busking" have been erected on lamp posts along the High Street, and anyone who chooses to ignore them will be moved on by police.

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "In line with many other towns and cities across the country, buskers are now able to book a number of specific pitches across Falkirk town centre.

"This has come about because of complaints received from residents and businesses. Falkirk’s Safer Streets Partnership has worked together to develop a scheme that balances everyone’s needs.

"We recognise that street performing can add to the character and attractiveness of a town centre however amplified music can interfere with the ability of businesses to operate and residents to live peacefully."
