Americans Divided On Supreme Court's Decision Regarding Trump

former president Donald Trump Organization trial in New York State Supreme Court in New York

A recent poll released on Wednesday revealed that a slim majority of Americans support the Supreme Court's decision to keep former President Donald Trump on the ballot in Colorado. The poll found that 56% of respondents backed the high court's ruling, while nearly 4 in 10 opposed it.

However, the same poll showed that 62% of Americans are against granting immunity to former presidents, with only 20% in favor of the idea. This sentiment was particularly evident when it came to Trump, as the share of respondents supporting immunity for him rose by 8 percentage points.

The poll also highlighted a significant shift in opinion among Republicans, who generally oppose immunity for former presidents but were more willing to support it for Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments in a case regarding Trump's immunity from prosecution, the poll results shed light on the public's divided views on the matter. The court's decision to keep Trump on the ballot was met with mixed reactions, with some respondents expressing approval while others remained opposed.

Notably, the poll revealed that Americans' support for the Supreme Court has declined in recent years, following a series of controversial rulings and ethical controversies involving some justices. Despite a slight increase in approval ratings in the latest polling, the court's overall public perception remains below previous levels.

The poll, conducted from March 18-28 and based on interviews with 1,000 adults nationwide, has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in the immunity case on April 25, marking one of the most anticipated cases of the year.
