American woman goes viral after admitting she thought Otley run was exercise

An American living in England has gone viral on social media platform TikTok after admitting to a rather hilarious mistake. Kristen Howell, who has lived in England for over two years said she still struggled getting to grips with some of the cultural differences.

The most recent one being some confusion about the Otley Run in Leeds. The Otley Run is a popular pub crawl among students and locals in which you visit 18 pubs starting in Headingley and finishing in Leeds city centre.

The run has become somewhat infamous over the years, with residents complaining about anti-social behaviour and noise, however, Kristen thought it was something else entirely when she went with her friends. Kristen admitted during the video that she thought the Otley Run was an actual run, as in exercise.

Much to the hilarity of her friends who swiftly corrected her, she found it is in fact just a pub crawl, running is entirely optional.

Kristen said: "Recently one of my friends, who lives in Sheffield messaged me and said 'hey we are all going to do the Otley Run together and go out afterwards.'

"And I said absolutely, I was excited, I love running, I love going out."

However, after joining a group chat with all of the other friends, Kristen realised her error in quite funny circumstances. People often dress up for the run, usually there are people dressed as traffic cones, pop culture references and more.

Kristen said: "They're talking about the outfits they are gonna wear on the Otley Run, so I am like okay it's like a fun run in America, where you dress up as a big turkey, do the run and go out after.

"But I was a bit confused, because I don't want to go running then go out."

She text her friend explaining her confusion and then found out the real truth. Her friends told her that it's not an actual run, it's a pub crawl.

The video, which has over 400,000 views and 20,000 likes has been doing the rounds since it was posted a couple of days ago. Many were leaving comments explaining how it could be confused, others found it hysterical.
