American tourist in Edinburgh goes viral with her reaction to deep fried Mars bar

Now us Scots are famous for wanting to slather any food item in an ungodly amount of batter and deep fry it.

Our longstanding relationship with the Italians has been put under strain by this habit as even their beloved pizzas are not safe from our deep fat fryers.

But one nation who you would think would be able to get on board with our calorific pastime would be the Americans from across the pond.

Kacie Rose, an American living in Italy, appeared to be visiting Edinburgh with pal/partner Dario, when the pair decided to tuck into one of our fine delicacies in a TikTok video - a deep fried Mars bar.

The video has been viewed over 40,000 times and has had over 4,000 interactions as well as hundreds of comments.

Personally, I find the toffee crisp to be a superior chocolate bar to cover in golden crispiness, but traditionally the Mars bar has always been a fans' favourite.

However it seems as though it did not pass the taste test of the American tourist.

In her video, which she shared to TikTok, Kacie says: “Ok so we are in Scotland and apparently they do this thing called a battered Mars bar. Aka a fried candy bar. I’m slightly confused but the American in me is also very intrigued. So let’s go get the candy bar.”

Kacie decides to visit the Castle Rock Fish and Chips takeaway at the Grassmarket to give the battered sweetie a go. She continued: “Hi can we just get one fried Mars bar? Just a small one.”

After being served the dessert she added: “Wow! Yep looks like a fried candy bar.” Hilariously, a passerby, who sounds like a local says: “It looks like s****.”

Kacie and Dario take a bite out of the Mars bar and show what it looks like on the inside to the camera - it is safe to say that neither of them look overly impressed by the experience.

Kacie raises an eyebrow and adds: “I’m not mad…but I’m probably not going to get it again.” Dario is overwhelmed and looks shell shocked - responding with simply: “Nope” to the camera.
