American tourist in Edinburgh baffled by weather as city heats up like a 'pressure cooker'

An American living in Edinburgh has been left baffled by the weather in the city.

While Scottish locals have been enjoying a taste of summer, Ed, who recently moved to the capital, has been left 'thoroughly confused' by the change in temperature.

Taking to TikTok under the handle Ed-in-Burgh, he has been documenting his new life as he readjusts to the climate.

In his latest video, he said: "It is currently 66 degrees Fahrenheit (18C). Back in Los Angeles, a cool, comfortable temperature. But here in Scotland, that same 66 degrees is absolutely sweltering. Now the simple explanation is that I have become accustomed to the colder climate here and recalibrated my sense of temperature to the point where 66 degrees feels quite warm.

"Or Edinburgh is so far north in latitude, coupled with the fact that we are approaching the summer solstice, means that because of the tilt of the earth, we are somehow closer to the sun and we just feel hotter.

"Now I know from a physics point of view that doesn't make sense but I'm starting to discover that physics works differently here.

"My suspicion is that the whole of the United Kingdom exists in its own atmospheric bubble, like an island-size pressure cooker if you will, creating an efficient roasting of my flesh at lower temperatures and times."

He then added: "Either that or it's just celtic black magic again."

Many took to the comments to try and help the American out.

One said: "If you want the scientific explanation, it’s the humidity! Your sweat can’t cool as fast so you feel warmer. It’s also why our colds feel colder."

A second said: "We've been saying for years that the Scottish sun is just different."

"Humidity. Wait until it’s in the 30s. Friends from Australia couldn’t stand it," a third commented.

And another wrote: "Definitely our black magic."
