Four Myanmar men surrendered to police after an American tourist was beaten to death in Bangkok while trying to resume his relationship with a Myanmar woman.
The four men, armed with a long knife and an iron pipe, were waiting at the crime scene, a roadside on Phuttha Bucha 39 Road in Chom Thong district, when police arrived there about 5pm on Monday.
Nearby was the dead body of Cole Stein Heath, 55, with five stab wounds and two broken legs.
Police said the suspects told investigators that a Myanmar woman, a younger sister of one of them, had ended her relationship with Heath and moved in with them.
The American was unhappy about this and had tried repeatedly to renew the relationship, and had argued with the suspects.
On Monday evening, the American man had returned, armed with a knife, and had confronted them at a nearby scrapyard where they worked. Seeing the knife, they had grabbed their own weapons, a knife and iron pipe, and they had brawled.
The American was overpowered and killed. One of the suspects suffered a knife wound.
The investigation was continuing.
