American gymnast Jordan Chiles recently made headlines after being stripped of her Olympic bronze medal in the floor exercise. Chiles took to Instagram to express her disappointment, posting four broken-hearted emojis and announcing that she would be taking a break from social media for the sake of her mental health.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) revealed that Chiles' bronze medal would be reallocated to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu. This decision came following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which determined that the USA's inquiry into Chiles' score was submitted after the one-minute deadline.
In response to the news, Chiles' teammates, including Simone Biles, showed their support on social media. Biles shared a message of encouragement, calling Chiles an 'Olympic champ' and expressing love for her teammate. Sunisa Lee also voiced her dismay over the situation, criticizing the judges and expressing solidarity with Chiles. Jade Carey echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that Chiles should not be penalized for the mistakes of others.
On the other side, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu celebrated the decision, stating that 'justice has been served' and expressing satisfaction that Barbosu had rightfully obtained the bronze medal.
