England had the stuffing knocked out of the World Cup winning way as America left the Three Lions looking like turkeys following a goalless draw.
The States Thanksgiving celebrations were given a surprise extension after its national team outplayed Gareth Southgate’s men in a 0 - 0 stalemate.
Despite the result, US fans took the result as a huge victory, bolstered by how they tamed Harry Kane ’s men.
Thousands across the States tore themselves off their sofas, defying their food coma’s to pack out pubs and bars across the country to watch yesterday’s Group B match.
At the popular Ed & Mary’s bar in Jersey City, fans from both sides of the Atlantic crammed in to watch the match.
Star and Stripes fan and football nut Wyatt Harte said he was proud of his nation’s performance.
“Everyone expected us to get rolled over, but the team did us proud," he said.
“They took it to England and left nothing on the pitch.”
Fellow American Carleigh Trivino, 28, agreed.
She said: “On paper England had a far stronger team, but they just lacked spirit.
“It was like they didn’t turn up.
“Our team is so young, but to get a draw against one of the tournament favourites is a great result.”
Tom Rogers, from Tolworth, Surrey, was one of the dozens of Brits crammed into Ed & Marys.
The 33-year-old shared the same frustration millions felt back home.
“It was a poor performance from England,” he said.
“With the players they have, they should be putting teams like the US away.
“America seemed to want it far more.”
For many in the States, the World Cup marks a new experience for the growing number of football fans in the US.
The team didn’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia – considered one of the greatest disappointments in USMNT history - while previous runs have seen little success.
Elsewhere in Manhattan, Chelsea Bell bar owner Frank Kane described the atmosphere inside his boozer as “electric”.
The pub has become an unofficial fan zone in New York for World Cup fans as supporters from all over the world living in the Big Apple flock to his to watch the matches.
Frank told the Mirror: “For a sport that has to compete with American football, ice hockey and basketball, everyone has really got behind the tournament.
“The place is always jumping no matter who plays. They don’t come much bigger here than the USA versus England.
“There was an electric atmosphere for the game, although the England fans were left disappointed.”
