American Express has elevated sign-up bonus for Gold Card again

If you've considered getting the American Express Gold Card, now might be the time to sign up for it.

The popular mid-tier credit travel rewards card has an elevated sign-up bonus on its website of 75,000 Membership Rewards points for spending $4,000 in the first six months of membership.

Its usual sign-up bonus comes with 60,000 Membership Rewards points with the same purchase requirements.

American Express tends to put out sign-up bonus offers for 75,000 Membership Rewards points — or sometimes even 90,000 Membership Rewards points — throughout the year. But these come and go, and there usually isn't any indication of when they start and when they end.

According to NerdWallet, each AmEx point is valued at two cents per point, meaning the 75,000 Membership Rewards points are valued at $1,500, and are an additional $300 more than the usual 60,000 point bonus.

This should be a helpful offset for the hefty $250 annual fee that comes with carrying the AmEx Gold Card.

More credit card points:

Outside of the sign-up bonus, the basic features of the American Express Gold Card are as follows:

- 4x points on dining

- 4x points on groceries

- 3x points on flights booked through the American Express Travel Portal

- 1x points on all other purchases

- no foreign transaction fees

The card also comes with $120 in Uber credits annually ($10 per calendar month) and $120 dining credit ($10 per calendar month) upon enrollment can be used at places like Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, and GrubHub.

If those purchases are already included in your monthly expenses, then the $240 worth of credits would bring the annual fee of the American Express Gold Card down to just $10.
