American Beatles fan on 'culture shocks' he faced in Liverpool

An American Beatles fan faced a "language barrier" when coming over to Liverpool.

Ken Lambert, from Massachusetts in America, purchased George Harrison's former home in Speke late last year, with his bid of £171,000 eventually winning. The dad-of-two has visited Liverpool five times since then, and has shared some of the "culture shocks" he faced in our city.

The ECHO caught up with Ken, and discussed what prompted him to buy the home via auction. He explained: "I got into the Beatles when I was a teenager, and I really started getting into George as I got a bit older.

"I saw the opportunity to own a bit of history so I bid on the home, but I didn't expect to actually win."

On some of the differences in the countries, Ken, 48, told the ECHO: "It was a little hard to understand the accent sometimes, we visited Liverpool and London and the accent is so different in the two places."

While in Liverpool, Ken took to his two boys to visit Anfield, home of LFC. He explained: "One of the biggest differences between Liverpool and the US is the sport.

"Obviously what you would call American Football isn't as big in England so I struggled to find a ball for my boys to play with, we ended up having to settle with a rugby ball."

Ken and his wife Danielle, along with two sons, Kolten and Sheadon, visited many of the popular sights in Liverpool- both Beatles related and otherwise. Ken added: "We've been to pretty much all of the Beatles spots, Penny Lane, The Cavern, Ye Cracke.

"But there's still a lot of stuff I want to do, I'll be back in a few months. I want to do the ferry across the Mersey and to see the Anglican Cathedral."

Ken now rents out the address as an Airbnb, having decorated the property in a similar way to it was when George lived there- including the iconic wallpaper seen in several photos of young George.
