Travelers are beginning to turn their attention to winter plans.
And that means, at least for many in northern U.S. climates, thoughts of escaping the upcoming colder weather for warm vacations.
DON'T MISS: Southwest Airlines passengers should be very worried
As always, there are a number of options from which to consider.
Families with children often choose theme park vacations, such as Disney's (DIS) -) parks in Orlando, Fla. and Anaheim, Calif.
Others opt for beach vacations in Hawaii or Florida.
In Hawaii, the island of Maui is encouraging tourism once again after it was temporarily halted because of the Aug. 8 wildfires that ravaged Lahaina.
In another development, many airlines are offering direct flights this winter to Key West, Fla.
The city features the southernmost point in the continental U.S. and has a wide variety of attractions popular with travelers.
These include Smathers Beach, Duval Street's shops, galleries, bars and restaurants, as well as author Ernest Hemingway's former home.
Travelers to Key West — 90 miles from Cuba — often fly to Miami and drive the final three-and-half-hours. But with more direct flights, travel to the island paradise becomes significantly less of a hassle.
American Airlines has low business class fares to Cancun
Another option, with a bit of a twist, is that American Airlines' (AAL) -) is now offering cheaper fares — in business class, no less — to Cancun.
So passengers can visit the Mexican beach destination while traveling in a bit of luxury.
"If you live in Chicago, New York City, Seattle or Washington, D.C., you can escape the cold weather this winter with discounted business-class flights to Cancun," wrote Mackenzie Roche for The Points Guy. "These flights are operated by American Airlines, and right now, there is plenty of availability."
Roche spells out some of the specifics:
Airlines: American
Routes: Chicago, New York City, Seattle and Washington, D.C., to Cancun
How to book: Browse Google Flights and book directly through the airline
Travel dates: Scattered dates from September 2023 through August 2024
Book by: As soon as you can
Blackout dates: Around Thanksgiving and Christmas
Roche credits FareDrop for alerting The Points Guy to the deals. She suggests the following as examples of the business class offers:
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Cancun International Airport (CUN), starting at $787.
New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to CUN, starting at $702.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to CUN, starting at $840.
Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport (IAD) to CUN, starting at $825.
"If you're flying from O'Hare, there are plenty of options below the $800 mark," Roche specified. "For a six-day trip as soon as November, you would spend just $787. Prices are similar from New York City to Cancun on the same dates. The best part is these are all nonstop options."
Roche explained a few of the benefits of flying business class on American Airlines.
"American's business class comes with premium seating, priority boarding, free changes, one free carry-on and two checked bags," she wrote. "According to Google Flights, this price is almost $250 cheaper than a usual business-class ticket on this route."
