America's Got Talent star Nightbirde dies aged 31

Jane Marczewski, a singer who performed under the stage name Nightbirde and became a fan favourite in 16th season of America's Got Talent, has died at the age of 31.

The Marczewski family confirmed her death in a statement released by NBC, it read: "We, her family, are devastated by her passing and unimaginable loss.

"Those who knew her, enjoyed her larger-than-life personality and sense of humour. She had a witty joke for every occasion - even if the joke was on her.

"Her lasting legacy will be the gift of hope she gave to so many through her music and the strength she found in Jesus. We thank everyone for their messages of love and support."

Nightbirde shone at her audition in June 2021 when she performed an original song called 'It's OK', which detailed her three-year cancer battle.

At the time of her audition, she told the judges that her cancer had spread to her lungs, spine and liver. Speaking to host Terry Crews, she added: "I have a two per cent chance of survival, but two per cent is not zero per cent. Two per cent is something, and I wish people knew how amazing it is."

The song brought judge Simon Cowell to tears before he pressed the Golden Buzzer, meaning she would go straight through to the finals.

However, due to her deteriorating health, she was forced to withdraw from appearing in the finals but the video of her audition has since gained over 4.2 million views on the show's official Twitter account.

A statement from America's Got Talent read: "Your voice, your story, and your message touched millions. Nightbirde will always be a member of the AGT family. Rest In Peace, Jane."
