For the last couple of months, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was instrumental in Trump’s victory during the 2024 presidential elections, has been at odds with the President of the United States on several issues. The most significant of these is the release of the Epstein Files.
Greene has consistently maintained that she wants to see the complete Epstein files released, seeking justice for the numerous women who were ra*ed and abused by Jeffrey Epstein. In contrast, Trump has repeatedly pushed against the release of these files, leading to multiple clashes between the two Republican stalwarts who were once believed to be good friends. Their feud reached a boiling point a couple of weeks ago when Trump called Greene a traitor in a Truth Social post, referring to her by his given nickname, “Marjorie Traitor Greene.” This prompted a response from MTG, who went on record on various news channels to list the ways she had supported Trump during the elections and how she has always advanced the Republican cause.
While all of this is happening, Marjorie Taylor Greene announced on Saturday that she was stepping down from her position as U.S. representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district, effective January 5, 2026. Among other reasons, she mentioned in the video announcing her resignation is that one of the primary factors behind her decision was her desire to prevent her “sweet district” from enduring a “hurtful and hateful primary” against her by the President she and others like her “fought for,” only for the people to fight for her and make her win the next elections while the Republicans lose the midterms. She made a bold statement about her political beliefs, saying:
“Loyalty should be a two way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest because our job title is literally, “Representative.”America First should mean America First and only Americans First, with no other foreign country ever being attached to America First in our halls of government.”
Many on social media have commended Marjorie Taylor Greene’s decision to step down from her position. However, some eagle-eyed internet users have noted that her resignation is only 2 days prior to the vesting date, which qualifies her for a lifelong pension that will sustain her for the rest of her life, implying that her decision was calculated and not morally driven.
