LAS VEGAS — Advanced Micro Devices on Monday announced an expanded lineup of processors for AI PCs for consumers and commercial users. Meanwhile, AMD stock has been in a slump.
AMD touted its latest Ryzen processors for AI-enabled personal computers at CES 2025. The trade show officially opens Tuesday, but major exhibitors held preview events on Monday.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker showed off its AMD Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 300 Series and Ryzen 200 Series for consumer AI PCs. It also unveiled "Pro" versions of those chips for business PCs.
The Pro versions of those processors feature enterprise-grade security and manageability tools, AMD said.
"As consumers and professionals increasingly recognize the productivity benefits of AI PCs, AMD is further increasing its performance leadership in the market," Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Group, said in a news release. "With the next generation of AI-enabled processors, we are bringing even more performance to mainstream and power users in new and exciting form factors."
At CES 2025, AMD announced that Dell Technologies will be adding AMD Ryzen-powered PCs to its commercial PC portfolio for the first time.
AMD-powered PCs also are available from Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo and other computer vendors.
The top-of-the-line Ryzen AI Max processors offer up to 16 "Zen 5" central processing unit (CPU) cores, 40 RDNA 3.5 graphics compute units, and an XDNA2 neural processing unit (NPU) with up to 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of AI processing ability. The Max processors can run in ultraportable notebook PCs, AMD said.
Featuring up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory, systems powered by Ryzen AI Max ensure seamless and reliable multitasking, the company said.
Systems powered by Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max Pro Series processors are scheduled for availability in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, AMD's Ryzen AI 300 Series processors are designed for AI experiences on mainstream notebooks. They also are expected to be available in the first quarter.
Finally, the AMD Ryzen 200 Series are for lower-priced PCs and will be available in the second quarter.
In addition to announcing new PC processors, AMD also introduced new gaming chip products at CES 2025.
Analysts Mixed On AMD Stock
In 2024, AMD stock fell 18%, ending the year at 120.79. On Friday, AMD stock popped 3.9% to close at 125.37.
Rosenblatt Securities calls AMD stock one of its eight "best ideas" for the first half of 2025.
Rosenblatt analyst Hans Mosesmann rates AMD stock as buy with a price target of 250.
He sees AMD taking market share in 2025 in central processing units from Intel and graphics processing units from Nvidia. It also will benefit from a broader semiconductor recovery in non-AI chips later in the year, Mosesmann said in a client note on Dec. 23.
Others are more cautious about AMD stock.
Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon on Sunday reiterated his market perform rating on AMD stock with a price target of 150.
"We are comfortable on the sidelines for AMD," he said.
