The head of Victoria's public ambulance service will finish up in his role almost two months earlier than planned.
Chief executive Tony Walker announced in September he would depart Ambulance Victoria after eight years in the role and almost 37 years with the service on December 23.
Despite remaining in remission after taking five months' leave this year for cancer treatment before returning to work, Professor Walker has opted to bring forward his last day to Friday.
"This is not an easy decision but, as I often say, we can't care for others if we don't care for ourselves, and I need to practice what I preach," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Prof Walker has previously denied he was pressured to resign after the service was beset by issues during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ambulance Victoria continues to search for his replacement.
