A married grandfather who joked he would be "done for baby snatching" during a sex chat with what he thought was a child has been jailed.
Kevin Wintrip thought he was chatting to a 14-year-old girl on an app and moved the conversation over to Whatsapp. Newcastle Crown Court heard a member of vigilante group Child Online Safety Team was behind the fake child profile and alerted the police.
Prosecutor Rachael Glover told the court Wintrip claimed his name was Colin during the chats and added: "She stated more than once she was 14. The defendant began to send her messages of a sexual nature.
