Amazon is allocating $1 billion over the next five years to support local communities hosting its data centers as the tech sector faces growing backlash from consumers and politicians over the massive buildout of these facilities.
According to a blog post published Friday by Matt Garman, Amazon’s CEO of its cloud computing arm, the corporate giant has already spent more than $1 billion into municipalities with a heavy data center presence over the past three years.
