Amazon's Kindle Is Down To the Lowest Price of 2023

Amazon (AMZN) currently makes five Kindles that range in size and capabilities, but after debuting a new entry-level model in 2022 you really can’t go with the most affordable.

The new Kindle really provides everything you'd want from an e-reader in a compact size. It offers a sharp, expansive 6-inch display and pairs it with double the expected storage. AKA the ability to store thousands of books without worrying about space.

Best of all though it’s down the lowest price of the year at just $79.99 in either denim or black. That’s 20% off from the $99.99 MSRP and Prime members will get free, fast shipping.

Amazon

In our review, we called out the latest Kindle for offering a high-quality display and for swapping an aging charging port for the more ubiquitous USB-C flavor. It not only makes charging a jiffy, but it also helps with easy data transfers.

Though, you won’t need to charge the Kindle all that often. Amazon says the entry-level Kindle can last for up to six weeks and we put it up against an older Kindle Oasis---the flagship Amazon e-reader. We found that it lasts for the same length, which Amazon promises six weeks of battery life on as well.

Suffice to say you won’t be reaching for a USB-C cable to be constantly recharging the Kindle. It’s a very efficient device that still features the landmark 6-inch e-ink display for comfortable browsing and, more importantly, reading.

One of the biggest changes was an upgrade to the display’s resolution. This 6-inch display features 300-pixels per inch which is a hefty jump over the 167-pixels per inch of the previous same-size screen. The result is inky blacks and crystal-clear text. In fact, we said it was similar to switching from a HD TV to a 4K one.

The entry-level Kindle is also snappy and reacts to inputs or commands swiftly. You can easily turn the page and you can turn on the backlight when reading in darker lighting conditions. You’ll need to do this manually, while the Paperwhite does this automatically. The Paperwhite also features a larger 6.9-inch display and is waterproof.

In fact, those are the main differences between the core Kindle and the Kindle Paperwhite. If you can live without waterproofing, a larger display, and the auto backlighting, then the standard Kindle is for you. Especially when it’s discounted to just $79.99.

But if you need the higher-end features, you can score the Kindle Paperwhite for just $20 more. It’s also discounted to $99.99 from $139.99.

Additionally, if you’re shopping for a younger reader Amazon is also discounting the Kindle Kids edition. It boasts the same better display and improved charging port, but comes with a fun cover, access to thousands of children-friendly books, and a 2-year worry free guarantee. The Kindle Kids is 29% off at $84.99.
