Amazon's 'actual magic' 9p powder 'effortlessly' removes brown stains from cups and mugs without scrubbing

Amazon customers say they have found a 'game changer' solution to removing stubborn tea and coffee stains from cups, mugs, pans and teaspoons without any scrubbing. The Amazon powder, which works out at around 9p per use, has been hailed as 'actual magic' by those who have tried it, and has been showered with hundreds of five-star reviews.

Anybody who drinks tea or coffee will know the struggle of trying to get stubborn brown stains out of cups and mugs. Because of what the stains are made from, it means using soap and water is virtually impossible.

In simple terms, the tannin stains are not particularly water-soluble so they are not the easiest things to remove. Tea stains require a bit of an added punch to get them moving.

This can come in two forms, a bit of elbow grease or the use of a slightly more potent cleaning agent. After one woman took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page to ask for a way to remove black tea stains from cups, many group members suggested using Amazon's Astonish Clean and Revive powder.

Sarah asked: “I love a cup of black tea but it leaves stains in the cup, any tips on getting it clean?” The post received over 160 suggestions, many of them also urging Sarah to avoid using bleach.

Katie Wilkin wrote: “Astonish Clean and Revive and then wash. Trust me, it works brilliantly.” Susan Matthews advised: “Add a scoop of the Astonish Clean and Revive then some boiling water and the stains will disappear after an hour.”

Georgina Carter commented: “Clean and Revive from Astonish and boiling water. Leave for a few minutes and the stains will be gone with no scrubbing at all. You can also put teaspoons in the mug at the same time that have tea stains."

Posting an image of the Astonish Clean and Revive product, Jen Lambert said: “My absolute favourite thing in the cupboard. you don’t need to use bleach, once you use this the stains will be gone in no time.”

Eunice Hart wrote: “The Astonish cup cleaner is amazing. It gets the stains off with no effort whatsoever.”

Astonish Clean and Revive can be picked up from Amazon for £2.50 (it's on Prime so if you're an account holder you'll get free next day delivery). As only 15g of the product needs to be used at one time, this works out as around 9p per use.

The £2.50 cleaning powder has been showered with five-star reviews on the Amazon website, and has an average rating of 4.6 stars out of five. Shoppers have been impressed by how quickly it works, while many say it works better than any other product they have tried.

One five-star reviewer wrote: "I bought this to clean out the inside of my thermos that I use to take my tea to work daily. I've had it for almost 3 years now and have never been able to get the tea stains off the inside despite much scrubbing and many products.

"This worked so well! All I had to do was add 1 tbsp to the flask and fill it with boiling water and let sit. When I came back after the water had cooled I barely even needed to scrub and the flask was 100% clean and shining like new on the inside! It managed to clean the rubber seals on the lid too AND it didn't leave a horrible smell or weird taste inside the flask for the next time I used it either!"

A second raved: "As described and absolutely effortless. From brown to sparkling in a couple of hours, without any scrubbing."

"This might be actual magic. Instructions are simple and it worked perfectly," said a third. A fourth impressed Amazon customer wrote: "My cups and teaspoons always gleam after using this product. Simple to use with great results."

Another fan of the Astonish Clean and Revive powder wrote: "It works so well. It’s so easy. Your mugs will always look brand new. It works on pots and pans too." "Love this product to get coffee stains off cups. I use it in my drip tray of my coffee machine to get the build up out of places I can't reach. It's perfect!" penned another.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Olivia Young, Astonish’s cleaning chemist claimed that this cleaning product is “unique”, and “especially formulated to restore products to their original form” and remove the chances of having to spend on replacements.

To use it the expert suggested adding half a tablespoon per teacup and then placing it into the sink. This will ensure no spillages occur when the powder reacts with the hot water and the foaming action occurs.

Once the hot water has been added, leave to cool for one to two hours. Olivia said: “Unlike stain remover and dish soap, there’s no need to scrub as the foaming action does this all for you.”

This product is also great for water bottles, which can begin to smell if used for an extended period, no matter how many times they are washed. Simply apply as you would to a teacup.”

Astonish Clean and Revive is £2.50 on Amazon, and will be delivered next day free of charge if you have a Prime account. It can also be picked up from supermarkets like Morrisons and ASDA for £3.
