Amazon Renews Italian Crime Series 'The Bad Guy' For Season 2

New York Amazon facility

Amazon Prime Video has announced the renewal of the Italian crime series, The Bad Guy, for a second season. The show, which has garnered both audience and critical acclaim, stars Luigi Lo Cascio and Claudia Pandolfi in lead roles. Joining the cast for season 2 is Stefano Accorsi, alongside returning cast members Selene Caramazza, Giulia Maenza, and Antonio Catania.

Season 2 of The Bad Guy was filmed on location in Lazio, Emilia Romagna, and Sicily. The storyline follows Nino Scotellaro, played by Lo Cascio, an honest Sicilian public prosecutor who is wrongfully imprisoned for alleged ties to the mafia. Scotellaro devises a revenge plan while in prison, embracing the persona of a 'bad guy' that has been imposed on him.

The upcoming season promises to blend elements of crime and dark comedy, delving into Scotellaro's past and his uncertain future. Directors Giuseppe G. Stasi and Giancarlo Fontana are set to helm season 2, which will continue the narrative from where the first season left off.

The creators of The Bad Guy, Ludovica Rampoldi, Davide Serino, and Giuseppe G. Stasi, have collaborated with writers Fortunata Apicella, Giacomo Bendotti, and Giordana Mari to craft the series. The tone of season 2 is described as evolving from playful and ironic to a more intimate, emotional, and tragic atmosphere.

Production for the new season is being handled by Indigo Film in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, Fifth Season, and RAI Cinema. The second season is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in Italy in 2025, followed by a broadcast on RAI. International distribution for both seasons is managed by Fifth Season.
