For two days between July 12 and 13, online consumers will be treated to Amazon Prime Day.
However, with the big event set to begin tomorrow, Scottish shoppers have been issued with a warning from experts, urging them to take care.
It comes as those at Advice Direct Scotland (ADS), have said people should keep an eye out for key differences when buying something over the next few days with major discounts on the site.

Discussing what to be aware of, ADS said shoppers should be aware of the difference between Amazon Prime and the Amazon Marketplace network where other retailers can sell products – including used items – through the website.
Because of this, anyone shopping on the site should avoid impulse buying. They should also check they are getting value for money by comparing the prices of items available elsewhere instead of simply adding items to their basket straight away.
The consumer experts also add that shoppers should also ensure they are aware of Amazon’s own guidance for the return of faulty goods and refunds to protect them in the event of a purchase going wrong.
Advice Direct Scotland said that when people are shopping on Amazon Prime Day, they should remember to:
- Research the seller before purchasing – check for generic and negative reviews.
- Ensure that they return items in a timely fashion, if they need to.
- Use the Amazon ‘A-to-z Guarantee’ when things go wrong.
- Send any returns through the proper postage channels, with insurance if the items are valued at £100 or more.
- Do not rush into a purchase before researching alternatives – the same item may be available elsewhere for less.

Colin Mathieson, spokesperson for Advice Direct Scotland, said: “People all over Scotland will be looking forward to getting some bargains when Amazon Prime Day launches but like any other online event they must take care.
“It’s important shoppers check their purchases are safe and provide value for money. The impulse to buy something straight away when we see a discount is all too familiar for most of us.
“To ensure that our expectations are met, it is vital to know what to do when things go wrong, and our rights as consumers in these situations. Anyone who is unsure of their consumer rights can contact our advisers for free, impartial, and practical advice.”
