Amazon Prime Day 2023: the dates, best deals and everything to know about the big sale

For UK households big and small, we’re all looking to save money where we can these days.

From looking up budget-friendly meals to bulk cook and freeze for later, and shopping for energy-efficient appliances to cut bills, Britain is in full-on thrifty mode.

While it may seem counterintuitive to spend money, big sales offer an excellent opportunity to secure products you need when they’re at a discount, thereby saving you cash in the long run.

Amazon is one of the best-known destinations for competitively priced goods with speedy delivery - often next day if you happen to be a Prime member.

And if you have Prime membership, no event is more eagerly awaited than Amazon’s famous Prime Day sale, which usually takes place in July every year.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Despite the singular name, Amazon’s flagship sales event spans a 48 hour period. This, folks, is a two-day gig.

During this period - and for Prime membership holders only - prices fall dramatically across the board. Everything from home and garden, tech, food and drink, beauty and more is fair game.

It’s not just in the UK either; Amazon Prime Day is a global affair, taking place in countries across the world.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2023?

During lockdown, the retail giant moved the day back to October to cope with demand. Although Prime Day returned to regular scheduling in 2022, the company threw a second event called Prime Early Access sale in October to entice shoppers who were on the hunt for an early Christmas bargain.

Cut to 2023, and Amazon’s annual Prime Day bonanza has returned to a July homecoming.

The exact timings? The Amazon Prime Day sale will take place between 00.01am on July 11 until 11.59pm on July 12.

What kind of deals can we expect?

Whether you’re in need of a new washing machine, TV, microwave, fridge freezer or just want a cheap thrill for summer living, epic deals are within reach.

“The countdown for Prime Day starts now, and we have an incredible selection of deals to come,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager of Amazon. “We work really hard to deliver great products at the best prices for customers during Prime Day and throughout the year, from the biggest brands to the 100,000 small British businesses that are available on Amazon. There is a lot to be excited about and a lot of value to find, with a few fun surprises and experiences to help you feel like a big deal along the way.”

While Prime sales slash prices across the board, historically the best deals and discounts are on Amazon’s impressive portfolio of tech devices.

Everything from Fire TV streaming sticks, Fire tablets, Ring video doorbells, Kindles, Echoes and more were treated to sensationally new lower prices last year and it’s very likely we can expect the same - if not even better - this year too.

As well as Deals of the Day and flash, limited time sales called Lightning Deals, there’s a brand new category this year.

What are Prime Experience deals?

Kicking things up a notch for the 2023 sale, Amazon is running special, once-in-a-lifetime offers to make UK shoppers “Feel Like a Big Deal this Prime Day”.

For instance, there will be a chance to buy a trip to the new set of Neighbours in Australia, and there are plenty of other similar experiences in the pipeline. Each one will be paired with a Prime Day product and available as a limited, one-off purchase during Prime Day.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Day

There is a catch to the sale, but it’s a teeny, tiny one. In order to take advantage of the stupendously low offers on Amazon Prime Day, you have to be a Prime member. It’s rather obvious, really.

UK membership costs £8.99 a month or you can choose to pay it annually at £95 for the year, which is more cost-effective in the long-run. For students, it’s £4.49 per month or £47.49 yearly.

Is Prime membership worth it? It’s not all sales and Prime delivery: membership unlocks worlds of music, streaming, books, gaming and entertainment, and so much more.
