Amazon has sent out a warning to customers over fake emails, texts and phone calls purporting to be from the company designed to steal personal information.
The retail giant confirmed that it has taken down more than 20,000 phishing websites and 10,000 phone numbers that were being used by fraudsters to impersonate Amazon. It comes after Which? alerted shoppers to a new scam doing the rounds last month which saw scammers call customers to tell them their Prime subscription was going up in price or was about to expire, in order to trick them into sharing payment details.
Amazon has now issued advice to anyone who uses its services in an email, warning them that they should be wary of installing any apps or software if asked to by an 'Amazon employee' via phone, text or email. Amazon confirmed that it will never ask customers to download anything in order to receive a refund or get help from customer service, the Liverpool Echo reports.
