It’s been a slightly unimaginative few years for Christmas programming, hasn’t it? Last year was ruled by reboots of shows that were in their prime twenty years ago, while this year seems noticeably devoid of any real showstopper (if only a fraction of the time and money spent on ChatGPT could be funnelled into helping Aardman make a Wallace and Gromit film more often than every five years).
There is one shining light among the slightly sparse 2025 Christmas TV schedule, however. Amandaland, the much-loved spinoff of Sharon Horgan’s hit series Motherland, has returned for a festive nibble ahead of the full course that will be season two in 2026.
