Amanda Ribas interested in toggle between 115/125 – and Carla Esparza

LAS VEGAS – Amanda Ribas beat Viviane Araujo with a unanimous decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC 285 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Take a look inside the fight with Ribas, who got back in the win column, but has alternated losses and wins for five fights.

Viviane Araujo vs. Amanda Ribas

Result: Amanda Ribas def. Viviane Araujo via unanimous decision (29-27, 30-26, 30-27)
Updated records: Ribas (11-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC), Araujo (11-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC)
Key stat: Ribas had control time of more than half the 15-minute fight and outstruck Araujo 205-86.

Ribas on the fight's key moment

“At my gym, we train so hard and the girls, they punch me all the time and they put me at the worst that I can feel. So in the fight, I was prepared for the best of Vivian and I found this. I was prepared for the best one and nothing surprised me.”

Ribas on making improvements next time out

“I was expecting to do some good kicks, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. So I will be training more of this for next fight. I can kick more and do more – my judo, too. But I need to watch the fight to see what I need to be better. What always was in my mind was this: ‘I am the winner. I am the winner. I deserve the win.’ So when she got my arm, I was with my mind so focused on that, that I didn’t feel anything.”

Ribas on what she wants next

“For a fighter, we need to take advantage of (a chance for callouts). So when I took the microphone, I was a little ambitious. But I think I deserve (a big fight) because my last fight I did against Kaitlyn, and she was No. 2 at the time. … The doctor said I need 30 days without nothing. So I need to talk with my team before because this is good for me. I really trust in my team and when they say I am ready, I am. I hope I can get (a higher) ranking at flyweight and take the opportunity to fight at strawweight, too.

“(If I go back to strawweight), maybe Carla (Esparza) or somebody with a good ranking.”
