'Always liked him' - Liverpool fans send message to Man United legend after Champions League draw

Liverpool have been drawn against Benfica in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with a meeting against either Bayern Munich or Villarreal to follow in the semi-finals of the competition should they reach this stage.

Jurgen Klopp's side avoided the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City in this morning's draw and will fancy their chances of reaching the last four of the competition against a Benfica side who currently sit third in the Portuguese top-flight. For many supporters, this was the ideal draw and presents the Reds with arguably the best possible chance of reaching the final in Paris.

The vast majority of Liverpool fans were left delighted with the outcome of the Reds' potential route to the final and will now believe that there is a strong chance a seventh European Cup can be claimed this term. The draw was less kind to Chelsea and Manchester City, who drew Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Below are some of the reactions on social media to Liverpool being paired with Benfica, which has left a number of people feeling optimistic about the team's quadruple chances. The two teams will go head-to-head next month, with the second leg to be played at Anfield.

Plenty of Kopites also paid a tongue-in-cheek tribute to former Manchester United star Mikaël Silvestre who conducted the draw. @JohnPepCourtney said: "Always liked silvestre, very underrated player but top draw picker". While @TheRedmenTV said: "Silvestre is a red".
