'Always, always easier' - Liverpool legend sends title warning to Manchester City

Mark Lawrenson has claimed Liverpool have the edge over Manchester City in the Premier League title race because it’s "easier to chase" than be top of of the table.

The Reds closed the gap on Pep Guardiola’s side to six points with victory over Norwich on Saturday, and City failed to re-establish their advantage after suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are on a superb run of form having won their last five league games, and can cut the deficit to three points if they beat Leeds at Anfield on Wednesday.

Lawrenson believes that it’s easier to be the side that’s chasing in a title race, because the leaders are more prone to suffer the odd shock result; due to the pressure from the sides trying to overtake them.

When asked if the weekend’s results meant Liverpool now held a slight advantage over City, the former Reds defender told Off The Ball :

“Yes, we have to beat City away, that is what we all are thinking.

“But I think the thing is, it is always easier to chase, always, always easier.

“It is when you are actually leading that it is a difficult thing because you just need one or two to start thinking, ‘oh they might catch us’, those kinds of things and then performances dip.

“And basically, we just expect Liverpool and City to win every game, do we not?”

City and Liverpool will meet at the Etihad in a potential title decider on April 9.
