Altrincham confirm surprise Manchester United academy signing

Altrincham have announced the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dermot Mee on an emergency loan.

The non-league club have two goalkeepers currently sidelined and Mee has been signed on a temporary deal until January to address the crisis. Mee, 19, was signed in time to play for Altrincham in their National League match against Maidenhead United tonight.

The young goalkeeper had started in both of United's U21s matches in the Premier League 2 this season. Mee was in action as recently as Friday night at Leigh Sports Village as the Reds' U21s were defeated 5-1 by Crystal Palace, who dominated the game.

A club statement from United read: "Everybody at United would like to wish Dermot the best of luck this term and we will follow his progress at the J Davidson Stadium closely."

Mee played against Altrincham in a pre-season friendly in July and has experience training with United's first-team goalkeepers.
