Almost Famous has opened up its new burger joint on the site of former Northern Quarter favourite Home Sweet Home. The brunch spot and cake shop, which is owned by the same company as Almost Famous, Beautiful Drinks, closed last month after 10 years on Edge Street.
The closure coincided with Almost Famous closing its first burger place, on High Street, just around the corner. It’s now moved into the Home Sweet Home unit, and will be serving burgers up from 12pm daily.
Celebrating the new opening, they’ve stuck a new burger on the menu; the Unabomber. It comprises a double cheeseburger, chorizo, wonderdusted waffle fries, crispy jalapeños, cholula, bacon bacon mayo, jalapeño mustard, jalapeños & onions.

There’s also a new slush version of their charmingly entitled cocktail ‘Bitch Juice’. The Icy Bitch is made from gin, dark fruits, citrus flavours and tonic, and in this iteration, frozen and churned. Both new menu items are exclusive to the Northern Quarter branch.
Speaking about closing Home Sweet Home, Almost Famous co-founder Beau Myers told the Manchester Evening News: “We were a little bit heartbroken, but it was a little bit of a labour of love. In order for us to go on to bigger and better things, it had to go to make room for Famous.
“It’s on ground level, it’s more of a traditional restaurant, still fun and quirky, but with a huge outside terrace, and it just fits. For us as a business, we’re really pushing Almost Famous with our expansion plans, so it meant winding up Home Sweet Home in order to concentrate our intention and our energy on that.”
They closed down the original Northern Quarter branch with a blow out party last month, in which they gave away a £5000 Banksy print that had hung on the wall in the venue in a treasure hunt. The burger brand is also planning to expand alongside bowling alley company Lane7, with new Almost Famous kitchens opening up at Lane7 alleys in Leicester, Bristol and Newcastle.
