Almost 90 new homes will be built on derelict land at the rear of a cinema.
Liverpool Council’s planning committee has signed off on proposals for 88 two and three bedroom houses, and one bedroom apartments to be constructed on the car park to the rear of the Showcase Cinema in Croxteth.
The development will consist of 80% affordable properties with a further 20% deemed to be in the intermediate range.

Applicant David Gilkes, of DK Architects, said the land at the rear of the cinema was currently redundant and new homes would “increase the provision of much needed local housing” in the area through affordable rents, rent to buy and shared ownership properties.
Mr Gilkes said the housing mix had been established based on the needs of the local area.
A new vehicle access point will be introduced to the southern part of the site off Stonedale Crescent providing a new road and pedestrian route. A pedestrian footpath will also be put in place towards the north of the scheme, to allow access to Stonedale Crescent.
As part of the approved plans, a contribution of £30,000 is required from the applicant to provide for traffic signal control.
A total of £232,400 will be required from the developers as part of a Section 106 agreement for the scheme to go ahead.
Cllr Pat Moloney described the development as a “real asset to the area” while Committee chair Cllr Tony Concepcion said the proposals “tick all the boxes.”
Councillors also gave their approval for former student accommodation on Smithdown Lane to be converted into a 70-bed hotel.
The former Smithdown Court site, opposite Smithdown Lane Police Station, was deemed appropriate by planning officers and was signed off by councillors by a majority.
There were two abstentions when a vote was called on proposals for the installation of a 20m high 5G mast on the central reservation opposite Kings Drive, Woolton.
Councillors approved the plans, also by a majority.
