The US women’s national team notched a seventh consecutive clean sheet, narrowly beating rival Canada 1-0 in the second game of the SheBelieves Cup. Ally Sentnor notched her seventh international goal early in the second half, capitalizing on a corner kick to swing the result in the hosts’ favor.
The United States last gave up a goal on 23 October against Portugal, a dominant defensive stretch that’s now extended to 714 minutes. Canada are winless in their last six matchups against the USWNT, though their last win was the most consequential result of all: the 2021 Olympic semi-final.
In a midweek clash and the second of three SheBelieves friendlies for each team, Canada were happy to let the US dictate the tempo in the first half. Emma Hayes’ side had a dominant 68% share of possession in that period, outshooting Canada 9-2. Their best look of the half came just before stoppage time, when Sentnor was able to sneak around Manchester City defender Jade Rose to collect a loose ball at the edge of the box. However, Canada goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan dropped down quickly and Sentnor’s finish at the near post instead found the side netting.
Sentnor was given the start up top, after coming off the bench in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Argentina. Her interplay with attackers Alyssa Thompson, Rose Lavelle, and Trinity Rodman kept Canada on their heels, although midfielder Sam Coffey admitted on the TNT broadcast at half-time that the whole team could’ve been more patient with their shot selection.
Canada proved to be a bit more opportunistic in the second half, targeting 20-year-old left-back Gisele Thompson with incisive counterattacking sequences led by Nichelle Prince. One such sequence, in the 49th minute, saw Prince find Cloé Lacasse in the heart of the box, only to see the Utah Royals forward forced back out again as the US defense blocked her shooting lanes.
The breakthrough arrived in the 55th minute, as Lavelle curled in a low corner kick from the left. The ball hopped through the first lines of players and found Sentnor with space, having just found an extra yard after Lacasse left the box in hopes of providing an outlet for a counter. Sentnor took the sting out of the ball and settled it after its momentum briefly carried it skyward, ultimately placing a shot to the far post beyond Sheridan.
While Sheridan has alternated starts over the past year with Sabrina D’Angelo of Aston Villa, the goal meant that regardless of who their goalkeeper has been, Canada haven’t kept a clean sheet since 4 April 2025. It’s an 11-match stretch and Canada have lost seven of those games.
The rest of the game played out with both teams occasionally finding shooting lanes, but mostly keeping each other contained. Rodman exited in the 69th minute, an encouraging extended shift after leaving the Argentina match with an apparent recurrence of the back injury which kept her off the field for much of 2025. Emma Sears checked in for her first USWNT appearance in her home town of Columbus.
Both teams will play their final games of the tournament on Saturday. Canada have an early afternoon kickoff against Argentina (12.30pm ET) before the US take on Colombia for a late afternoon matinee (3.30pm ET).
