Ally McCoist storms back into Celtic VAR debate as Rangers hero offers sarcastic surefire winning panel for rivals

Smirking Rangers hero Ally McCoist joked that he has contacted the SFA to request a new VAR team for Celtic games - including diehard fan Sir Rod Stewart.

The use of the technology has been a hot topic in the Scottish Premiership since it's introduction but went into overdrive following the clash between Rangers and Celtic. McCoist previously accused right-back Alistair Johnston of 'paranoia' after the Canada international entered the VAR debate following the derby showdown with Rangers amid claims over a handball by Connor Goldson.

The decision to not award a penalty dominated the post-match talking points coming out of Ibrox, leading to McCoist joking that there was a "conspiracy" against Ange Postecoglou's men. However, he has now suggested a cheeky solution to fellow pundit Chris Sutton. McCoist was pulled up by Celtic hero over the comments made about Johnson on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra. However, the Light Blues' favourite couldn't resists another cheeky dig as the Hoops.

He said: "I've got to say that I didn't know I was capable of touching a nerve the way I've seemed to have touched a nerve. Anyway the good news is that the problem is solved.

"I've had a word with Ian Maxwell at the SFA. He's agreed for Celtic games, we are going to have Chris (Sutton), Jason Bourne and Rod Stewart doing the VAR. We'll have Chris, Sir Rod and Jason Bourne - how does that sound?"
