Rangers legend Ally McCoist basked in the Premiership champions' Scottish Cup progress - then told the club to give Giovanni van Bronckhorst a hand with more January additions.
And Premier Sports punditry sidekick Kevin Thomson backed him up by insisting they must sign a "serious" midfielder.
The Ibrox side coasted to the fifth round after seeing off Stirling Albion with 18-year-old Alex Lowry stealing the show.
He grabbed the opener after being sent on for the injured Ianis Hagi before James Tavernier scored one penalty and missed another before the break.
Cedric Itten and Fashion Sakala finished the job in the second half for a 4-0 win.
But a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Tuesday night - Van Bronckhorst's first dropped points as manager - still sticks in the craw and McCoist insists more signings are needed before the deadline on January 31.
He said: "I look at Rangers just now and I need to be brutally honest with you, I think they need to sign a couple of players in the window.
"I really do. They need to be honest about Roofe straight away. If Roofe's fit, Morelos is fit, Itten's back, you're probably covered in that area.
"I think he needs something in a wider area. Prior to the break, excellent. Nobody is panicking.
"However, you look across the city and Celtic are without a doubt freshening things up and strengthening.
"I think it won't do Rangers any harm at all to do the same, get a couple of fresh faces in. That affects the opportunities of some of the younger players, you get them out on loan and playing games."
Former Gers academy coach and now Kelty Hearts boss Thomson added: "I would echo what Coisty is saying on the signings. I think they need a centre-midfield player.
"A serious centre-midfield player. If I had money, tomorrow, I would go out and buy a serious centre-midfield player."
