Ally McCoist slams Hibs fan 'stupidity' as Rangers legend calls for bans over Hearts derby incidents

Ally McCoist admits he's baffled by fans' "stupidity" after Hibs launched an investigation into incidents at Sunday's Edinburgh derby. And the Rangers legend reckons the Easter Road club must take swift action after missiles were thrown at Hearts' Alex Cochrane.

TV footage and pictures show objects, including a portion of chips, raining down on the 22-year-old left-back from the home end during the 1-1 draw. Hibs CEO Ben Kensell promised the club would address the unwelcome scenes as he responded in a post-match interview.

And McCoist revealed his dismay as he felt a pulsating derby clash - punctuated by goals from Lawrence Shankland and Martin Boyle - was overshadowed, insisting bans should now be dished out in the aftermath. He told talkSPORT: "Listen, it never ceases to amaze me, the stupidity of some fans, throwing a cigarette lighter in particular man, that could take somebody's eye out or need stitches. It's a shame because it was a proper game yesterday, a good game.

"I think ( Hearts boss) Robbie Neilson will be a little bit more disappointed than the Hibs contingent because they seemed to dominate most of the game. They took a 1-0 lead through Lawrence Shankland then Hibs equalised literally - literally! - with the last kick of the ball through Martin Boyle.

"Robbie will be disappointed but at the same time it's just stupidity from these fans. And surely it's not that difficult to pick them out with the cameras that are at the game? Just go get them and ban them.

"Throwing things onto pitches, I thought we were by all that. It's a shame because Edinburgh derby is a proper derby, I've been to three or four in the last four or five years and I really do enjoy the atmosphere.

"It's a good, good game whether it's at Tynecastle or Easter Road. It's a shame it's been marred by that."
