Ally McCoist rinses VAR as Rangers hero joins Man United pundit penalty pile on over Jack Grealish handball

Ally McCoist was left baffled by VAR's involvement in the FA Cup final as he blasted a handball decision given at Wembley.

The Rangers hero has made his opinions clear on the use of the video assistant referee in Scotland, producing a startling U-turn in recent months by calling for VAR to be binned by the SFA. That came after the technology was introduced in the Scottish Premiership in October and has been the hot topic of debate all season.

But on punditry duties for the FA Cup showpiece at Wembley between Manchester City and Manchester United, McCoist was once again primed to tear in to a call that saw City winger Jack Grealish penalised for a handball. The Ibrox legend, who watched as Ilkay Gundogan scored the competition's fastest-ever goal after a stunning 13 seconds, bounced off commentator Sam Matterface and fellow pundit Lee Dixon over the decision.

He said: "It's natural movement. I know it's above his head Sam but it's natural because he is defending. Nobody would convince men that is not his [Grealish] natural movement. He is backpedaling and his arm comes up."

Dixon added: "You're right Ally. If this is given, it is the most ridiculous decision there has ever been from a handball position. It is never the penalty in the history of penalties."

McCoist then added: "I find it frankly unbelievable, I really do. My point is there's nothing Grealish can do about that. His natural movement of his arm is to raise it, his body momentum takes him there. But they've given a penalty."

After the half-time analysis, he added: "I'm afraid I'm disagreeing with Roy [Keane] on that one. I've nailed my colours to the mast, never a penalty."
