Ally McCoist on Rangers boss hunt as he makes 'no real standout' claim and talks Michael Beale

Ally McCoist believes there is no real standout candidates for the vacant Rangers job as he touched on Michael Beale and Steven Gerrard.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked by the Light Blues yesterday just days after his one year anniversary in the job. The Dutchman was dismissed after a poor run and performances that left his side trailing Celtic and Ange Postecoglou at the top of the Premiership by nine points going into the World Cup break. The Champions League group was also one to forget with six defeats from six and the unwanted tag as the 'worst ever' team in the group stages.

QPR boss and former Rangers No2 Beale is believed to be keen on the Rangers job and it is reported Loftus Road chiefs will NOT stand in his way if he wants to return north of the border to the club he spent four years at under former boss Gerrard. However, McCoist has casted doubt over whether the 42-year-old is ready, asking whether it is 'a little bit early' to turn to him to replace the Dutchman. He has no doubts about ability but wonders if his former club should be looking for someone with more experience.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "Excellent reports about Michael as a coach, is it just a little bit early? I'm not sure. I'm really not sure. Do you go for more experience? Someone like Sean Dyche or one or two others.

"Michael Beale is certainly very well thought of, but I'm not sure if it's maybe a little bit early because it's a massive job. The pros are he knows the place, he's been there before, the players know him and he's had a better than reasonable start to his managerial career at QPR, although they have dipped a little bit, losing four of their last five."

On a potential Gerrard return to Ibrox, he added: "I am pretty open minded, I'm eager and keen to find out who the replacement will be. There is no real standout candidates, I think it is pretty open between four and five.

"I don't think that will happen (Gerrard return), I wouldn't say burnt bridges, far from it, I would say the vast majority of the Rangers support were delighted with the job he did winning that big title, but I think there is one or two who are not happy the way it ended and I think it would be tough to come back from that."
