Ally McCoist in Rangers VAR outburst as Alfredo Morelos goal decision branded 'absolutely embarrassing'

Ally McCoist has let out his most heartfelt views on VAR in Scottish football yet after Rangers had a dubious goal disallowed despite the technology checks.

Rangers had threatened Celtic little up until the 20th minute, when Alfredo Morelos appeared to beat Hoops full-back Alistair Johnston in the air and tap the ball home with his foot. The Colombian star sprinted to celebrate, but referee Kevin Clancy ruled it out.

As per the protocol, the goal was reviewed by VAR chief Nick Walsh, and with the shove looking relatively soft, McCoist and co-commentator Andy Walker were left thinking that the disallowed goal would be overturned. To their amazement, VAR continued to disallow the goal and play was restarted - leaving McCoist, wearing his heart on his sleeve as ever, to vehement the decision.

McCoist said: "Honest to goodness, it is absolutely embarrassing the way we are running VAR.

"Absolutely embarrassing. We are a laughing stock. He [Morelos] gives him a little nudge. Nick, what are you seeing, son."

And former Celtic man Andy Walker backed McCoist, stating: "I think if that's at the other end, everyone is wanting a goal. It's six and half a dozen."
