Ally McCoist in Rangers show of faith plea to Michael Beale

The Rangers board must back Michael Beale to bring back trophies to Ibrox.

Ally McCoist insists the club's hierarchy must throw their full weight behind the Englishman if they want to get back on a level footing with Celtic.

Beale took over the reins at the Light Blues in November.

He has enjoyed good form in the Premiership, however, he has lost to Celtic in the final of the Viaplay Cup, as well as in the semis of the Scottish Cup.

This ultimately means Rangers will go the season trophyless again.

And McCoist has delivered his thoughts on what needs to happen to ensure harmony returns on the pitch at Ibrox.

Speaking to BoyleSports about Rangers vs Celtic, said: "Rangers can (win trophies under Michael Beale). The board made the decision to hire Michael and one thing that needs to be done now is for us Rangers supporters to rally around the team and give them support.

"The time is now for Rangers to start winning things again, domestically. It's important that Michael gets support from the board too and I'm sure he will. There are some exciting times ahead.

"Hiring any manager is a gamble. I was surprised that Rangers hired Michael as I thought they'd prefer someone with more experience but when you actually think about it, they've hired someone that knows the club, has been there, and knows what's required of him.

"The one thing he needs to get; is support from the board - it's vital. The next two or three months are vital for Beale and his tenure."

The former Rangers striker and manager is also "concerned" about the running down of contracts at his old club.

He added: "Obviously, Morelos’ injury hasn't helped but he hasn't reached the level required since the setback so he needs to regain a little bit of form if he wants to secure a move at the same level as Rangers are at.

"Ryan Kent, on the other hand, was exceptional during the European run, some of his performances were amazing but his consistency levels have dropped and if he wants to move on to another club then he has to perform better.

"I'm a little concerned that their contracts have been allowed to run down and as I said, the next couple of months are going to be vital."
