Cheeky Ally McCoist attempted to defend Rangers after they became they were named the worst ever Champions League team - by pointed to the coefficient.
Gio van Bronckhorst 's side landed a nightmare group and that saw them lose six games in a row while Napoli, Liverpool and Ajax racked up huge margins of victory in sweeping aside last season's Europa League finalists. The two-goal losing margin at the hands of the Dutch champions saw the Scottish Premiership side overturn Dinamo Zagreb's record low point as they return a whopping -21 goal difference.
Despite the disastrous campaign Rangers still managed to secure the most UEFA coefficient points this season, narrowly seeing off Celtic and Hearts in the rankings. BT Sport Scottish Football Extra sparring partner and Celtic fan favourite Chris Sutton was keen to point out to McCoist that Rangers should abandon the Ibrox anthem 'Simply The Best" going forward this season.
However, McCoist refused to take the bait. Sutton quizzed: "I just want to ask my old pal if they are still going to be playing Tina Turner at Ibrox in the future?"
McCoist sharply responded: "Well, I would think they would give that song in particular a couple of weeks rest. There is no way shape or form I'll be taking any solace from Rangers flying the flag in terms of the coefficient for Scottish teams. It's been a very poor campaign."
Sutton laughed: "Worst ever team and he is taking solace in the coefficient cup! You couldn't make McCoist up."
McCoist added: "In all seriousness I don't think they will be playing it for a wee while."
