Ally McCoist gives verdict on Darvel's 'ridiculous' Scottish Cup win over Aberdeen

Ally McCoist says Darvel's historic win over Aberdeen is the biggest shock of his lifetime.

The Rangers legend and ex-Kilmarnock hero was left stunned by the result at Recreation Park which saw Michael Kenned'ys heroes dump out the seven-time winners of the competition.

McCoist took in the game whilst waiting to board his flight to London for TalkSPORT duties and said he couldn't believe what he was watching when the non-league cracks took an early lead.

By the time he touched down in the UK capital, Darvel had pulled off the shock of all shocks.

Speaking on TalkSPORT this morning on the Laura Woods show, McCoist could only deliver a three word response when trying to sum up the seismic result.

The former Scotland striker rhymed off a few comparisons of previous 'massive shocks' including Berwick beating Rangers in the Scottish Cup in 1967 and Celtic being put to the sword by Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2000.

But when asked by producer Sam Elland where Darvel's win ranks, McCoist replied: "This is ridiculous."

"[It's] Absolutely unbelievable, it’s incredible.

McCoist admitted he couldn't believe the result when he checked at full time (SNS Group)

"I watched on my phone at the airport on the way down. And by the way, they knocked it about alright.

“They got a little bit of a break with the deflected goal.

“And then I’m on the flight thinking I’ll turn my phone on and I’m expecting 3-1 (to Aberdeen). I could not believe my eyes."

He added: “Easily the biggest shock I can remember. It is a fantastic achievement.”

McCoist then interrupted Elland when he announced that Darvel only has a population of 4,000.

The pundit laughed and joked: “That’s right, you qualify to play for them when you're 15.”

The panel were then joined by Darvel fan Chris Smith who shared his incredible story from being at Recreation Park.

McCoist added: "I'm buzzing for you, I'm buzzing for everybody at Darvel.

"I've said it's he biggest shock in my lifetime and I stand by it."
