Ally McCoist details his worst Rangers misses including the one that 'defied belief'

Ally McCoist has opened up on some of his worst misses in a Rangers shirt including one that "defied belief".

The Ibrox hero was used to banging in the goals in Govan, but even the greatest occasionally have an off day.

McCoist appeared on talkSPORT this morning as the panel discussed their worst errors after Kieran Trippier suffered a howler for Newcastle last night that helped Chelsea into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

"I had one at the San Siro that defied belief," said McCoist. "Walter Zenga was in goals and Reddy (Ian Redford) hit a free-kick, it hit the bar and I'm right on to it. I'm underneath it, looking up then looking down at Walter Zenga.

"He's lying in his six yard box looking at me and then we're both looking at the ball. All I could hear is 400 studs coming behind me and I'm thinking: 'Just come doon, please gonnae just come doon!'

"It didn't and I jumped early. I'm talking two yards out and as I jumped early, I've come down and the ball's hit me on the head. It was just the worst ever."

McCoist also reminisced about a league sitter that he missed, but he piles the blame on a former teammate for that error.

He added: "There was another one at Tynecastle against the Hearts. I swear to God this is what happened; we had (Oleksiy) Mykhaylychenko playing and he was brilliant, what a player he was. He goes down the inside left, by two or three players, gets to the six yard box and I've got a tap in.

"I'm just standing in the six yard box and he goes to square it, but doesn't and takes it again. He's now about half-a-yard-out and then goes to roll it along. As he goes to do that, he stops at the last minute and that split second, rolls it along.

"By this time, my feet are planted in the ground and I can't move. I'm literally half-a-yard out in the six yard box, I can't move and the ball rolls right in front of me. Of course, I'm getting absolute pelters from the Rangers fans! I'm looking at Mykhaylychenko going: 'Why did you not give me it early?!' It was horrendous."
